How Do I Qualify?

  • Sign a six-year service contract or Officer Service Agreement in the Reserve Component on or after 1 July, 1985
  • Complete a High school diploma or equivalent
  • Complete IADT or Officer Branch Qualification
  • Continue serving in an active drilling status
  • Not be AGR
  • Not be flagged for AWOL
  • Not be using a Dedicated Army National Guard ROTC Scholarship

What Do I Get?

  • 9 per month for full-time enrollment (1 October 2016)
  • Payment are direct deposit in your account
  • In most cases benefit eligibility begins once you complete IADT

How Do I Qualify?

  • Be eligible for either Chapter 1606 or Chapter 30 GI Bill
  • Agree to serve in a current critical skill/critical unit verified by AUVS or enter an officer commissioning program (ROTC, Officer and Warrant Officer)
  • Enlisted must sign a six year reserve service contract on or after 1 July 1985
  • Officers must sign an Officer Service Agreement (OSA) (DA form 5447-R) within 90 days of commissioning
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Complete IADT or Officer Branch Qualification
  • Sign a valid Kicker contract
  • Not be on Military Technician or AGR/Active Duty Status
  • Not be flagged for AWOLs
  • Not be using a Dedicated Army National Guard ROTC Scholarship

What do I Get?

  • 0 or 0 per month depending on contracted rate
  • Works as supplemental to GI Bill payment
  • Payment made directly to you each month.  Can use with any GI Bill but must be eligible for either Ch 1606 or Ch 30 to retain eligibility

The State Tuition Assistance Programs 50% of tuition only; Available to South Dakota Army National Guard members at completion of basic training. Soldier must be in good academic standing with the applicable school they are attending. Program covers 128 hour cap for BS and 32 hour cap for Masters.

This program allows individuals who are eligible to earn up to $ 50,000* in student loan repayment. The SD Army National Guard may be able to assist in the payment of past student loans for both non-prior service and prior service applicants. *Check with your SD Army National Guard representative for exact details. Get paid for attending monthly unit training assemblies (UTAs). This part- time job can bring you a starting wage between $ 12.07 and $ 17.05 per hour (E-1 - E-4 rank with less than two years time in service). Working one weekend a month (weekend drill) and two weeks a year (annual training) can really add up!

Promotion to E-2: you must refer 1 student/graduate who enlists.Promotion to E-3: you must refer 2 students/graduates who enlist.

SPLIT-TRAINING PROGRAM High School Juniors who are at least 17 years of age may enlist and attend Basic Combat Training between their junior and senior year. After graduation you would then complete Advanced Individual Training. Seniors, graduates and seasonal workers may also utilize this program.

JOIN NOW AND GET PAID NOW If you are a high school or college student and you want to join the SD Army National Guard, but don’t want to miss any school, you can joinand get paid for attending drills for up to nine months before you attend Basic Combat Training. This will allow you to belong to the SD Army National Guard without a break in your education.

COLLEGE CREDITS FOR PROMOTION Depending on how many classroom semester or quarter hours you have successfully completed prior to enlistment, you could automatically be promoted to E-2, E-3 or E-4.

Some of your military training may even count towards college credits.* An education officer will evaluate your military training and recommend to your college that they accept anywhere from 7-32 Semester hours. You can also earn college credits for Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training. *Check with your education counselor formore details.
